During this time workmen Were busy painting both Holt and Penick dormitories, Cheshire Hall and East and West Rock. New roofs were put on East and West Rock and the gutters on these buildings were fixed. Not only was all this accomplished, but a new retaining wall was built be hind the tennis courts to hold the earth in place. At the present time, a new sev enteen-hundred foot fence is be ing erected along Hillsborough Street. This project is to be fin ished this spring. This new fence is to give Saint Mary's a greater aura of distinction as well as to facilitate entrance to the college from Hillsborough Street. President Jenkins also has plans of renovations for the future. He hopes to eventually have the Language Arts building redone so that there are both bathrooms and air conditioning in the building. Other visions for the future in clude a backporch on Smedes, the circle rebuilt in a more oval shape with parking lots off to the sides hidden by berms, and the creation of a soccer field on the front lawn. During Honor Chapel Tuesday, Anna Tilghman gave a speech on how the honor system unites the school. Fall Fest is October 9-10. On November 4, there will be the S.G.A. Dance at the Civic Center. It is the only dance that combines both the high school and the college. The S.G.A. has devised a new committee, the Student Budget Fees. Any organization on cam pus can submit a proposal to this club to plan activities that would benefit each girl at Saint Mary’s. Any girls who are interested in helping the S.G.A., with any events are more than welcome to participate. The Lighting of the Grove takes place in December. It is also sponsored by the S.G.A. The S.G.A. is quite willing to work with any ideas, suggestions or concerns. After all, they are here to work for you.
